Physician wellbeing is becoming a priority for health-care systems, because it has a direct impact on their quality and accessibility, physicians’ own health and job satisfaction, and overall health-care efficiency. Previous approaches to wellbeing largely focussed on managing stress and preventing burnout at the individual level, but now a more holistic view is being adopted. This holistic approach includes addressing systemic factors at the societal, health-care organisation, and work unit levels, so that job demands do not overwhelm job resources, such as right-sizing workload, streamlining administrative burdens, and optimising the work environment.
