Pins and needles, the latest play by Scottish writer Rob Drummond, takes on the incendiary topic of vaccine hesitancy. It seemingly draws on interviews conducted by Drummond, alongside excerpts from the writings of Edward Jenner (1749–1823), the pioneer of smallpox vaccination. Jenner is charmingly played by Richard Cant, replete with pantaloons and a penchant for bad poetry. Drummond also represented himself in the play as the character Rob. He is played by Gavi Singh Chera. This is not a play that can be accused of lacking self-awareness.
