[Editorial] Dementia-related stigma is still pervasive

World Alzheimer’s Month takes place every September, a period during which some non-profit organisations—led by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI)—aim to raise awareness globally about dementia. An objective of the 2024 international campaign by ADI is to address the stigma and discrimination experienced by many people living with dementia. Stigma and a lack of knowledge about dementia are barriers to timely diagnosis of the condition and to appropriate treatment and care. ADI’s World Alzheimer Report 2024 documents global changes in attitudes to dementia over the past 5 years.
