[In Context] The (hi)story of stroke

Tracing the origins of a specific disease through history is a challenging task. It requires a thorough understanding of the social, cultural, and even anthropological peculiarities of different historical periods, because concepts and ideas about health and disease are shaped by the context in which they arose. Moreover, medical terms and their meanings change and evolve over time, and can differ greatly from the definitions of today. History does not speak for itself; it requires interpretation and contextualisation.
