[Newsdesk] Infectious diseases surveillance update

On Sept 26, a cholera outbreak was declared in Gedaref State, Sudan, after four samples from suspected cases were confirmed as positive for Vibrio cholerae. Suspected cases have also been reported across other states of Sudan, but limited laboratory capacity is delaying confirmation of the outbreak in those states. As of Sept 29, 817 suspected cases had been reported across Sudan, including 35 deaths (case fatality rate [CFR] 4·28%). The cases have been reported across three states, with South Kordofan having the most number of suspected cases (n=400), followed by Gedaref State (n=307) and Khartoum (n=110).
