Join us for an exciting lineup of scientific symposia, educational sessions, hot-topic discussions, and award lectures that cover the most recent advancements in nutrition science at NUTRITION 2023. The American Society for Nutrition’s( ASN) annual flagship meeting, NUTRITION 2023, will take place from July 22 to July 25 at the Sheraton Boston.
View the agenda of the meeting and sign up to receive a press pass.
The meeting will bring together eminent experts in the field and crucial discussions that are advancing nutrition science. Highlights include:
- Ultra-processed foods- Although the mechanisms underlying these associations are unknown and there is scant evidence from clinical trials, observational studies have linked the consumption of these foods( UPFs ) with an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases. However, consumption of UPFs is discouraged by the World Health Organization and a number of nations. Limiting UPFs increases the risk of food poisoning and food waste as well as not meeting the nutritional needs of essential nutrients, which lowers the quality of the diet. A review of the data has been suggested for the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee in the United States in 2025. This session will examine the potential mechanisms of action of UPFs and review research from a food science perspective. To improve our understanding of whether and how UPFs affect the risk of obesity and cardiometabolic diseases, a research roadmap will be presented. Sunday, July 23, 10 – 11: 30 a.m. ET( more details )
- Linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, meats, and eggs, is good for the heart. The public is unsure of how linoleic acid affects health and offers advice on whether and how to incorporate it into a balanced diet. Top researchers will present and discuss the most recent clinical findings and fresh basic biology insights into how this dietary oil benefits the heart at the NUTRITION 2023 opening session and presidential symposium” Food as Medicine: New Findings to Explain Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease by Dietary Linoleic Acid.” Saturday, July 22, 4:30 – 6 p.m. ET( more details )
- Can scientists with divergent viewpoints collaborate to determine why lost pounds are frequently regained? One of the most contentious topics in nutrition science is the existence and clinical significance of metabolic adaptation, a physiological phenomenon that may make it difficult to maintain weight loss. ” Metabolic Adaptation and Increased Drive to Eat as Drivers of Weight Regain in Obesity Individuals” session Reality or Myth? An Exercise in Adversarial Collaboration” will introduce partners who have decided to cooperate in order to resolve the conflict. Jonathan Krakoff, MD, from NIDDK-Phoenicia, Arizona, and Catia Martins, PhD, RD, both from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, will discuss what is known about metabolic adaptation, their divergent points of view, as well as a research strategy to advance the field. Tuesday, July 25, 10 – 11 : 30 a.m. ET( more details )
- The 2023 W. O. Atwater Memorial Lecture” Enhancing the Purpose of Food” will focus on agriculture, food, and nutrition as a solution to societal problems. Patrick Stover, PhD, will deliver the lecture. At Texas A & amp, M College Station, Stover serves as the director of the Institute for Advancing Health through Agriculture. In terms of biochemistry, agriculture, and nutrition, he is a global leader. Sunday, July 23, 2 – 3 p.m. ET( more details )
