With fewer side effects than currently available treatments, researchers have created a new type of tumor-targeted alpha-particle therapy that has the potential to treat many different types of cancer in general. The proof-of-concept study demonstrated that after just one injection of a substance intended to emit small amounts of alpha radiation from the inside of cancer cells, killing them while sparing healthy tissue, tumors in mice grew almost three times less and survival was 100 %.
